You know, Barack Obama thinks the most beautiful sound in the world is the Islamic morning call to prayer. Do you know what the worst sound is? A parent grieving over the death of their child.

I know this, because when my father died, suddenly, in my shock at hearing the news I called my Aunt who was at my Grandmother’s home. In that moment I felt desperately in need of her comfort. When she answered the phone, and began speaking with me, I could hear my 87 year old Grandmother wailing in grief.The sound was so powerful she could have been standing next to my Aunt, in the kitchen. She wasn’t. She was on the opposite side of the house. A good distance. I quickly let my Aunt go, because I realized that my grief was nothing compared to my Grandmothers in this instance, and she needed her daughter more than I needed my Aunt.
I will never forget that sound. Never.

I watched the Univision program segment on the massacre of these children. I watched the mother sob to the panel. My eyes registered the tragedy. But all I could hear was that sound of irreconcilable grief of a mother who has lost her child.

I cannot look at Barack Obama or Eric Holder without seeing mass murderers and hearing the sound of hundreds of mothers wailing in despair.

I despair over the lack of a moral clarity in this country when so many of its people can follow and support – in any way – either of these killers.
